Translated by Richard Jeffrey Newman; Global Scholarly Publications, 2006; ISBN: 1-59267-061-x
Selectiona from Saadi's Bustan is the first literary translation of this classic of Iranian literature to be published in the 21st century. Of this translation, Bob Holman has written that it strikes "just the right balance between contemporary and classic." M. R. Ghanoonparvar, Professor of Persian and Comparative Literature, at The University of Texas at Austin, said this, "I have enjoyed the translations [of the Gulistan and Bustan] greatly and truly appreciate the amount of work you have put into them along with, of course, your linguistic and poetic skills and talent. In addition to general readers, I think these renditions are particularly useful for undergraduate (and even graduate) courses. The style of your writing can instill and foster interest in students for further study of Persian literature." As far as I know, this book is not available for sale anywhere else but on my website. |

The Silence of Men is a book of my own poems. It is available through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, other online bookstores and through the distributor, UPNE. If, however, you would prefer to buy the book directly from me, you can do so here. You will receive a signed copy. This is what poet Robin Behn had to say about the book: "From Korea to Manhattan, and from the haunted voices still rising from the concentration camps, Richard Jeffrey Newman's The Silence of Men exposes the violence of men toward men, and men toward women, and the tenderness also, the resounding tenderness. His is an unremitting empathy, as uncommon as it is necessary. Such a brave debut." |
